Oklahoma City sprung up from the prairie in the blink of an eye, at high noon, one sunny spring day in 1889. In moments, a tent city blossomed like wildflowers after a rain and streets were scraped out of the red clay. No other city has been born with quite the same dramatic flair.
In many ways, the visual arts community in Oklahoma City takes its cues from the City’s origin story, perhaps unintentionally, but the blueprint is the same.
Bold, experimental, collaborative and fearless, our modern-day artists are very much in the tradition of the early settlers of our city, and the indigenous peoples who have called Oklahoma home for centuries before that.
